A Momentous Occasion

We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Waiuku, a milestone event attended by representatives from at least eight different kura kaupapa Maaori schools and hundreds of people, including principals from neighbouring schools and numerous officials from the Ministry of Education. This remarkable turnout reflects the strong support and excitement surrounding this new educational initiative.

A Unique Partnership

Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Waiuku is uniquely situated in partnership with Waipipi Primary School. This joint venture has been five years in the making, driven by the unwavering support and dedication of the principal and board of trustees of Waipipi School. Their commitment to this project has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

Welcoming Whaaea Wairua Potini

The new principal, Whaaea Wairua Potini, was warmly welcomed and supported by her whaanau and the new kura whaanau. Her leadership and passion for education promise a bright future for Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Waiuku. Whaaea Wairua's dedication to fostering a nurturing and culturally rich learning environment is sure to benefit our tamariki and community immensely.

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony was graced by the presence of Kingitanga representative Turongo Hanaialii-Paki, who officially opened the new kura. His presence and words of encouragement were deeply appreciated, adding a significant and symbolic layer to the event.

Looking Ahead

The opening of Te Kura Kaupapa Maaori o Waiuku marks the beginning of a new chapter in Maaori education within our community. This kura will provide a space where our tamariki can learn and grow in an environment that honours and promotes te reo Maaori and tikanga Maaori.
